What are you looking for?

A bit of rambling this morning…

I read this from “Fresh Brewed Life” today. ” It’s true, what we don’t have shapes us more than what we have. We are like Swiss chesse, and the holes in us are actually supposed to be there. The holes are the things that make us who we are. The holes are the places God has reserved in us for Himself! The longings identify our real hunger. A hunger that drives us to Him to be satisfied. If…big if…we listen.”

I know in this photo, Elizabeth is looking for either an acorn, or rock that she can put in her mouth. Why would I take a picture of such a silly, one year old thing? Because it is who she is. She is constantly putting weird things into her mouth. None of the kids have done it to the extent she has. I want to remember that when she is fifteen. Because when she is fifteen, she will be looking so much more. She will be trying to find her place in our family and in her world. Just like still, at thirty-one, some days I am doing the same thing.

I don’t think the longings we have ever end. Until we are in heaven. But like Nicole Johnson points out, we have longings, but what are we going to do with them? How do I pass that one to Elizabeth, and Hannah, and Alli Ruth, and Luke. Can’t force them to turn to the Lord to find out why they feel the way they do, or will. But I can live it myself. And I mean, LIVE -not just go through the motions. And pray that they get it.

I so believe about the holes in our lives. God fills a hole every once in awhile. The Holy Spirit speaks and fortunately I listen some times. Now how many times has He spoken and I wasn’t attentive enough to listen. But oh the joy to recognize when He does speak and be assured that what you do is the right thing to do. Fathers Day 2008. I love you Jesus.
