I have said it before, but I love this time of year. Even though I dread the cold of winter, I thoroughly enjoy this time of year. Soup and fresh bread tastes better, an occasional pie in the oven, the crunchy leaves under foot, the garden cleaned up for the winter, planting tulip and hyacinth bulbs for spring, pulling out winter hats and stockings, the pumpkins…

All these warm thoughts have me also thinking about the seasons of life, the ones that happen no matter what the weather is like. The smooth or rough ones of life and why sometimes they seem too hard and not to make sense. Right now I have friends waiting for adoptions to go through (that we thought would be finished by now) friends trying to have more children and month after month, still no new baby in the womb, financial hardships, love ones passing away way sooner then you would imagine, work issues… Going through and seeing others going through difficulties all the while knowing that God is working, but wondering how and why in these ways. One scripture just keeps coming back to me. In Romans 10 it says, “Scripture reassures us, No one who trusts God like this-heart and soul-will ever regret it.” And as I continue to pray for them, and our own seasons of life, that is what I believe, God is faithful and those who love Him, He will not forget.
My husband’s aunt and I were just having this same discussion late last night. Talking about seasons of life and the times that we are in “spring” when things are fresh and new and invigorating and the times of “winter” when it is cold and God feels distant and life is hard. It is all part of growth isn’t it? All seasons are necessary for our growth in Christ just as a tree needs seasons to grow, mature, produce fruit, and stretch out and reach its branches toward the sky.
